Fashion Wardrobe essential

If there’s one thing the previous year has taught us, it’s that even the best-laid plans can go wrong. Many of us have switched our attention to the things we can control after nearly a year of canceled events, postponed trips, and ever-shifting “return to office” dates. Make more deliberate choices about how we spend our time, the relationships we invest in, and, if you’re anything like us, the wardrobe staples we’ll be bringing into the new year.

While the first few weeks of the pandemic may have been characterized by the panicked hoarding of essential goods, the subsequent months have shown us that less may, in fact, be more — especially when it comes to fashion.

The Knitwear

Everlane’s sustainable cashmere has always been a favorite of ours, but this laid-back polo might be our new favorite. It’s soft enough to double as a long-sleeved tee, and it looks wonderful tucked into a pair of high-waisted slacks.

Denim Wear

With a pair of OG high-waisted Levi’s, we’re keeping our denim game basic this year. Pair them with loafers or boots, whether new or old. These hall-of-Famers are the denim we’ll never grow tired of wearing.

The Cotton Shirt Wear

It’s past time to quit putting off going to the dry cleaners. No, seriously, they require your patronage! In a crisp cotton shirt that can easily double as a beach coverup, get truly dressed up for Zoom.

Silk Scarf

A Hermès scarf is one of the most recognizable accessories in the world. It’s one of those pieces that you’ll keep for a long time. It’s also a great thing to buy secondhand because it’s a one-size-fits-all accessory.

Face Mask with a Social Purpose

Without a cloth face mask, no list of 2021 basics would be complete (or two, or three). Why not vary your collection with the one thing on our list that we’ll be wearing every single day for the foreseeable future?

The Chic Sneaker

If you’ve been working from home, it’s unlikely you’ll be stepping back into heels any time soon. We’re keeping things casual with a tried-and-true, wear-with-everything classic.

Pajamas

As our daytime wardrobes become increasingly pajama-like, why not give your sweats a night off and get dressed up for bed.

The Ribbed Tank

T-shirts and tanks are the pieces we often forget to refresh, but when you finally get around to it, they have the power to transform your entire wardrobe. This ribbed racerback tank from Re/Done effortlessly channels the simplicity of the ’90s. Tuck it into a cozy pair of sweats, throw it on with your favorite pair of jeans, or layer it under a jacket or blazer for a polished look.
